Privacy Policy
Privio ("we," "us," or "our") provides a network filtering and privacy application designed to help individuals and families manage what content reaches their connected devices. This Privacy Policy describes the categories of information we collect, the purposes for which we process that information, and the choices available to you as a user of our service (the "Service"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information. When you register, we collect your email address and a securely stored password. We do not require or store your legal name.
Device Information. To deliver filtering functionality, we associate a unique device identifier, platform type, and device label with your account. This allows the Service to recognize which devices belong to your account and to apply the correct filtering configuration to each.
Network Activity Metadata. In order to provide the filtering functionality central to the Service, we process certain technical data associated with the network requests originating from your connected devices. This processing allows us to apply the settings you have configured and to present you with summarized insights into your own account's activity. We do not access, store, or otherwise have visibility into the content of your communications; our processing is confined to what is reasonably necessary to provide filtering and reporting.
Payment Information. Subscription payments are processed by a third-party payment processor. We do not directly collect or store your card details. We retain records of your subscription plan, billing status, and transaction identifiers as necessary to administer your account.
Optional Features. Certain features of the Service, such as notifications and supplementary account integrations, may require us to process limited additional information solely to deliver the functionality you have chosen to enable. We process only what is reasonably necessary for these purposes, and such features remain optional at your discretion.
Technical Information. In the ordinary course of operating the Service, limited technical information may be recorded for security, diagnostic, and abuse-prevention purposes. This information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for these purposes.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Authenticate you and maintain the security of your account
- Apply and enforce the filtering configuration associated with each of your devices
- Generate summarized analytics regarding filtering activity for your own review
- Process subscription payments and manage entitlements associated with your plan
- Deliver account-related, security-related, and service-related notifications
- Investigate and address suspected misuse, fraud, or security incidents
- Improve the reliability and effectiveness of the Service over time
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use your network activity metadata for behavioral advertising.
3. Legal Basis and Purpose Limitation
Where applicable law requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on the necessity of processing to perform our contract with you (namely, providing the Service you have subscribed to), our legitimate interest in maintaining a secure and functioning platform, and, where relevant, your consent for optional features.
4. Device Permissions and Supervised Devices
VPN connection. To filter DNS requests, Privio asks Android for permission to create a local VPN connection on the device. The VPN is used only to send the website names the device looks up (DNS requests) to our servers, where they are checked against the filtering profile. We do not read the content of pages, messages or passwords. The domain names looked up, with the time and the device name, are recorded in the activity log, which the account owner can view. If the account owner sets a time schedule, internet access on the device is blocked while the schedule is active and the VPN is on.
App Blocking (Accessibility). If you turn on App Blocking, Privio uses Android's Accessibility service only to detect which app has just opened, so that it can return the device to the home screen if the account owner has blocked that app. Privio does not read the contents of the screen, what you type or your passwords, and does not perform actions on your behalf. You can turn the service off at any time in Android's Accessibility settings.
Supervised devices. A device can be connected to an account, for example by scanning a QR code. The account owner can then see that device's filtering activity, apply schedules and block apps. The person using a connected device is shown a notice before it is connected. Account holders are responsible for having the authority to manage the devices they connect.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We engage a limited number of carefully selected third-party service providers who assist us in the operation, delivery, and support of the Service. Each provider processes information solely to the extent necessary to perform its designated function and is contractually or operationally restricted from using your information for independent purposes. We do not control the privacy practices of any third-party service you may elect to use in connection with the Service, and we encourage you to review their respective policies.
6. Data Retention
We retain account and device information for as long as your account remains active. Network activity metadata is retained for a period reasonably necessary to provide analytics functionality, after which it may be aggregated or deleted. Upon deletion of your account, we remove or irreversibly anonymize your personal information within a commercially reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Access and review the personal information associated with your account through the Service
- Correct inaccurate account information
- Delete your account, which will initiate deletion of your associated personal information as described in Section 6
- Withdraw consent for optional features at any time through your settings
- Object to or request restriction of certain processing, where applicable law provides such a right
To exercise these rights, please contact us using the details provided in Section 10.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for use by individuals who are legally capable of entering into a binding agreement in their jurisdiction. Where the Service is used as a parental or family filtering tool, the account holder is understood to be an adult exercising supervisory control over the connected devices of minors within their household, and not the minor themselves. We do not knowingly collect account registration information directly from a child.
9. Security
We employ administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Data transmitted between the application and our servers is protected using industry-standard encryption. No method of electronic storage or transmission is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Contact
If you have questions regarding this Privacy Policy or wish to exercise any of the rights described above, you may contact us at support@privioapp.online.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Where changes are material, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service prior to the changes taking effect. Continued use of the Service following such notice constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
